Radial Ball Bearing Construction and Materials
Ring & Balls:
ABT Radial Deep Groove Ball Bearings are produced of hi quality SAE-52100 vacuum degassed,
high carbon, chromium bearing steel. Most sizes are also available in AISI-440C martensitic
stainless steel, which is ideal for use in corrosive environments. AISI-300 grade stainless
and non-metallic polymers can also be utilized for special applications (low speed & load).
Retainers:
Standard retainers are composed of cold rolled carbon steel. Stainless steel, nylon & phenloic
retainers are also available to meet specific application demands. (Stainless Steel retainers are
standard when rings & balls are supplied in stainless steel.)
Seals & Shields:
Shields are composed of carbon steel as standard. AISI-300 Grade stainless steel is also
available. (AISI-30 shields are standard when rings & balls are supplied in stainless steel.)
(Seals are constructed of Buna Nitrile rubber & are designed to contract the inner ring to maximize
protective qualities. Light contact & non-contact seals may also be available to meet specific
application demands.
Lubricants:
ABT pre-lubricated Deep Groove Radial Ball Bearings (shielded & sealed) are supplied with
Chevron SRI-2 grease, 25-35% fill*. This versatile bearing grease provides superior lubrication
in many applications over a wide temperature range. ABT bearings can also be supplied with a wide
variety of specialty greases & fill percentages to meet specific application demands.
* Other fills can be ordered to accommodate special needs.
ABT pre-lubricated electric motor quality (EMQ) bearings are supplied with Exxon Polyrex
EM as standard. This grease is specially designed for use in electric motor applications & proves
superior bearings life at high temperatures with good noise inhibiting qualities. The data for Chevron
SRI-2 grease, Exxon Polyrex EM & other greases available upon request can be found in Table 1.
All ABT pre-lubricated & open bearings are supplied coated with a rust prohibitive light oil bearing
slush. Bearings are intended for immediate use upon removal from protective packaging, and should be
handled carefully to prevent contamination prior to installation.
Radial Clearance:
ABT Radial Ball bearings are produced with a C3 clearance (aka "fit"). C3 clearance
allows for thermal expansion and a small degree of misalignment that exist in a wide variety of applications.
Bearings can also be supplied in tighter clearances (Co, C2) for applications that require less radial play,
or in C4 (looser clearance) for high temperature and specialized applications, Table 2 details the clearance
values for each fit in accordance with ISO5753.
Quality:
ABT bearings are produced in strict accordance with ISO & AFBMA standards and in compliance with the
strict ISO9000 quality system to insure consistent supply of high quality products.
